Song Review: “Push Me” by Tarah Who? feat. Yur Mum

Rock duo Tarah Who? Has released the song “Push Me.” Based in Los Angeles, California, Tarah Who? has created a song worthy of repeat listens by those who enjoy listening to rock music. Additionally, Tarah Who? has released a music video in support of “Push Me.” This music video gives the song a visual representation, adding an extra element to it. Given the detail of the video, it is a highly recommended view. “Push Me” is a collaboration with fellow rock duo Yur Mum.

The thumbnail to the music video depicts a woman starting to exit a van in the daylight. It tells viewers little about the direction of the video or the content matter of the song, which will entice them to press play to find out. Upon doing so, viewers will find the logo to Kurukulla Records, followed by the logos for both Tarah Who? And Yur Mum simultaneously. Both appear as Tarah Who? walk toward a house, with one of them smoking. It abruptly turns into a party, with both women wearing elaborate outfits. Time is spent going back and forth between outdoor scenes and indoor scenes. In the outdoor scenes, they are simply hanging out and having fun, bringing a feel good atmosphere to the video. In the indoor scenes, pink lighting accompanies them as they aggressively play their instruments. The outdoor scenes also feature instrument playing, although without the pink lighting. In the outdoor scenes, viewers will be able to see the Hollywood sign right behind them. Viewers will be able to tell that Tarah Who? and Yur Mom appear to be enjoying themselves in the video, as they tend to put much passion into their performing.

As evidenced through the video, the vocals are assisted primarily by guitars and drums. It is a rock song built to be a crowd pleaser at concerts. Lyrically, the song is about being pushed to one’s limits. In the chorus, it is sung “Put me to want it more/You push me to raise my voice/You push me to dare and dream/You push me/We’re insatiable.” The chorus is belted out to match that heard in traditional metal songs, while guitars soar in the background. It is certainly a powerful chorus made to amplify a moving message. Also notable in the lyrics is when they sing about reviving the American dream, which comes right before the second and final chorus.
