Exclusive Interview: Homicide Doll

StreetWave Media presents an exclusive interview with underground rap artist, Homicide Doll located in Oxnard, California.

1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

I needed an outlet so i wouldn’t kill myself. Plus i love music so i combined the two.

2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

I Don’t care for peoples feelings. I will say whatever i want on a song. Artist now are afraid to do that because they don’t wanna offend people but i couldn’t care less about how i hurt someones feelings.

3. If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

A band i would love to collab with is “To The Grave”. They make some hard ass music and i love Death Metal. Do i think our music belongs together, no i dont. But damn that would be alot of fun for me.

4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?

I dont have an advantage being indie but my biggest disadvantage to it is no one knows who i am or what i do. No one cares for a smaller artist like they do the bigger ones.

5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

If you become successful independently then that is amazing and you really proved to yourself and everyone that anything is possible. But if you are signed then you still had to be good enough for them to sign you so i wouldn’t mind any of them. But i think the independent route is the way i would like to be known just because i wasn’t handed money or helped by a company.

6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

“Catch Me When I Fall”. The reason why is because i got compliments for that song and friends actually played it. That’s it.

7. Do you miss the era of CD sales OR do you prefer the new wave of music streaming? Explain…

I hated the old era of cds. I prefer it now because i can have all those songs i used to listen to on CD in my phone. I guess it’s cool for artist to see people with there cds and actually care enough to go out and buy it but now its alot easier for everyone to just stream it.

8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

I have never been on stage so i can only say i enjoy creating music in my room. i can be free and i can get alot of thoughts out. I don’t really need anyone to hear me in conversation where i talk about my feelings when there is 100 songs talking about how i feel on the inside.

9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?

People telling me they believe in me and tell me that they support me. when in reality those people that told me that are now not in my life. it hurt to lose some people but it’s all for the better.

10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

My proudest moment is seeing how far i’ve come in music. I use to sound awful and i hate it now. I don’t listen to my old music but i just know there was a point in my music where everything sounded more smooth and clean.

11. If any, what discourages you the Most about music industry these days?

The way people change in a matter of months of fame. If i ever become like these people who let it get to there heads i would probably just end everything on the spot. No one is a better person because of how much money you have. It’s your character that defines you and how good or bad you are.

12. What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?

Nothing if i’m being honest. there isn’t anything in this industry now that pops. I’m watching this industry crumble and burn right in front of my eyes. All the music is the same now. It’s sad to say that because music is important to mostly everyone.

13. If you wasn’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

So I wouldn’t consider myself in the business just yet since i’m not successful in it. I’m hoping that it will be before I leave. But the plan for my life right now is to join the Army. I plan to join as an infantryman and just do my time there and retire.

14. In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?

So in my local area the music is not like mine. I am definitely an outcast in the music scene where i live. I live in a city above Los Angeles where there’s constant gang activity and drug abuse all around me. The music here is kids trying to be hard for a gang they aren’t really about. They promote drug use, drinking, having sex, and killing people. Then you have some people here trying to bring back that 90’s rap that just can’t be duplicated in my opinion.

15. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

So my latest release is a single I dropped in September. It’s called “I Know You Hate Me And I Love It”. You can find it on all platforms.

16. What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2021?

You can expect something new every month for the rest of the year. More screaming music besides that sad stuff I used to do. More interviews and podcast with me on them. I definitely wanna do more for my music before I leave next year.
