1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?
Well after college I moved back home. After a few weeks of doing nothing and going back to my old ways to started looking for work that would keep me away from home. I ended up being a flight attendant shortly after. After meeting really cool people in first class, I challenged myself to take some advice that was given to me within a few months of flying. I moved out to LA and auditioned for an agency. I got accepted my first day out in LA. Aqua Talent was the name of the company. I did some acting because I always knew I had some acting skills. Not too long after I stated diving into music. Writing mostly at first for artist who couldn’t articulate well in their writing. It then went to producing. Eventually I started doing my own thing. This led us to today.
2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?
My sound. It’s natural. It’s not drowned in auto tune nor is it deceptive. It’s me! Ive been told I have a country accent when I rap and an angels voice when I sing.
3. If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?
I like a lot of artist sounds. I think if I could I’d have to say Bruno Mars. Just seems like a really authentically dope cat! I’d like to challenge myself to be as cool on the mic as him. He’s dope!
4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?
My advantage is obviously my sound. I pride myself on taking my time with it. It took me almost 10 years to find what’s really me. Crazy how long but fast that time goes by.
My disadvantage would be that I’m independent. I pay for all my own steps in the music industry. I also pride myself on that. Too many artist think that’s it’s an overnight gig. 99% of artist will have to due for their own careers. Most leave it to chance but I worked hard for this. Working 14hr days as a salesman at Mercedes-Benz while finding time to record was hard. Let alone doing music videos on my day’s off. I worked so I could market my music. It’s not free!
5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
I think signing with a major label is dope. Takes a lot of the burden off of you as a artist and allows you to focus on your own true skills. But for me I’m glad I had to be an independent artist. I learned so much about the back end of the game and how you play it. Makes me mode of the ultra artist I want to be.
6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?
Currently I think my best song is Edge. I was such in a dark place when I wrote that song. Siting up at 4am writing that song in my bed with the lights off in a vivid memory I have. I was so hurt and just going through up and downs with my depression and anxieties. I put my truth into that song.
7. Do you miss the era of CD sales OR do you prefer the new wave of music streaming? Explain…
I like the new wave! It allows me to actually be seen and heard by a much broader fan base. If you do your marketing write and “trial & error” your music, you can see real growth you’d never Ben able to see with just physical cds. I still think door to door methods work but mostly only to the bigger artist. If you think about it though, what cars even make CD players anymore? Got to follow the wave to get to shore.
8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?
I love to be in the studio having my moment with my music. A very intimate moment. There’s nothing quite like being one with something you worked hard on to write. With that being said there’s also nothing like enjoying the moments with your audience. It’s a surreal feeling. Watching people recant your lyrics back to you is just amazing.
9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?
I could say a lot of things! I’ve failed so much in this business. I think you have to though. Again, trail and error was my approach to everything I did. If I had to pinpoint one moment I’d say the night we performed in Downey Ca. It was me, Goddi, and Rio. We was told it would be about 500 people showing up to watch us perform at this night club. They gave us this dope table and all the drinks we needed. An hr goes by and nothing has change. I’m not too worried though as it was on 10 o’clock but I figured some people would of shown up by then. Another hr goes by and only 1 person walked in. I knew then this was going to be a disaster! So I quickly change the scene into a more intimate gathering of a show. Since we invited friends and family we just performed for them and made a good time of it. It actually turned out to be a cool event by the end of the night.
10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
In 2018 I did my first international performance is Tallin Estonia. I’ve never performed in front of 500 people before so I was honestly a very nervous wreck going into the performance. After about 30 seconds I saw the crowed cheering and dancing along with me. The nervousness left my body and I was all in with just having a good time. They treated me like a prince. From VIP entrance to backstage gifts and drinks to my own section in the club where people cane up to my for autographs. I’ve never experience anything like it.
11. If any, what discourages you the Most about music industry these days?
I’ve been saying for about 5 years how I feel like true talent is being overlooked by image. For example, the more “hood” you presume to be in the hip-hop industry the more accepting you are from fans and even labels. Some really gifted lyricist are overlooked because maybe they are tough looking enough or don’t have the struggled story. Not that it’s a bad thing, but I opened up my record label Fam Entertainment to help bridge the gap with truly talented artist who could adapt to mainstream music. As discouraging as it seems there’s always ways to help artist get noticed.
12. What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?
I’m excited about my growth! I think in 2 years my name will be a household name. Most will think that I did it overnight it nope! It took me half a decade to get here with no promotional company or agency to market me nor my music. I’m very inspired to help other artist reach their maximum goals in this industry.
13. If you wasn’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?
Playing in the NFL. I was an All-State defensive back in high school and had multiple scholarship offers. I took a full ride to Hofstra University in NY but they ended up losing their football program in 2010. Right after I transferred to Alabama State. After some academic issues I started focusing more on school and eventually stopped playing. Definitely could of went pro had I truly tried to.
14. In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?
LA is booming! We have a lot of talent out here whether you talking female or male. I’m originally from South Carolina so I’ve never seen anything remotely close to the level of artistry than out here. Everyone can sing dance and rap. It’s quite common. Comes down to who market better.
15. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?
My latest release is “4am In K.Town”.
You can find it on all major platforms be it (Spotify/Google Play/ Pandora/ iTunes/ etc)

16. What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2020?
We’ve done so much this year!
-Released a book “5 easy steps to success in music”
-Dropped clothing line “BlackGenes”
-Opened record label “Fam Entertainment”
-Released collab album “Gang Green”
-Released got single “Redlight” with Elle Loraine who is one of the leads on the show “Insecure” and also Goddi.
-Releasing my next single “Jimmy Choos” June 15th 2020
-Releasing music video to Jimmy Choos early July 2020
-Got a summer smash coming this month that’s gone make any summer party jump!
