StreetWave Media presents an exclusive interview with Pop/Rock/R&B/Country musician, Kings of Carlisle: Russell (Leedy singer, songwriter and producer) located in Carlisle, PA. After our interview, check out the music linked below…
1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?
My love of music and in tandem with that my passion for writing music and creating sounds. There is nothing quite as magical as having people respond to it in a positive way.
2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?
Everyone is unique in their own way. I believe that I take vintage sounds and interweave them with a modern twist. That makes its own unique sound. Also, my versatility I can write and sing in a number of different genres. That helps as a writer to continually have new ideas and explore new areas of music.
3. If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?
Daryl Hall from Hall and Oates .I believe that we think about music in the same way. We are both kind of soulful, but yet have the ability to step into different markets.
4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?
My biggest advantage is I can produce all my own material in my studio. I can do all instrumentation, record, mix and master . Also we have access to the world via the internet. My biggest disadvantage is patience. I am always wanting to push to the next thing. I would like to have a few more notes in my vocal range to go along with that.
5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
Both have their advantages. A major label will without question get you noticed by millions of people on major media outlets without a doubt. However, you do give up a lot of creative freedom with a major label . As an indie artist I am able to choose how I want my music to sound , how I want it produced and the money that I earn is mine. Ultimately in the end, I choose the indie route.
6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?
I am going to say my new release Every Moment. The reason being it has a lot of texture, soulful vocals and captures a vintage pop feel.
7. Do you miss the era of CD sales OR do you prefer the new wave of music streaming? Explain…
I miss CD sales for a couple of reasons. When people would go to the record store it was a bond between the artist and the listener. They were actually getting out and making a commitment to go buy that music. I do like the new wave of music streaming because you can reach so many people so rapidly.
8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?
Performing live on stage is my favorite. There is nothing like the energy on stage. Walking out and playing your songs live to an audience is the best.
9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?
Playing in a club in South Florida years ago and only 15 or 20 people showed up. Does not make you feel wanted.
10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
Just the fact that I have written, recorded and produced 40 plus songs in the last year and a half , is a proud moment.
11. If any, what discourages you the Most about music industry these days?
That it’s hard to get exposure and radio play. Streaming services do not particularity pay artist well, we get less than a cent per stream.
12. What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?
We seem to be focused more on the music rather than the image. People do not seem to be too concerned about how someone looks. It’s more about their art and their music. I am very encouraged by that.
13. If you wasn’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

14. In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?
It has a lot of variety and there are many great musicians. Its always fun to go out and hear someone playing.
15. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

16. What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2022?
We will be releasing 6 new singles this year. We will also be shooting 2 more major video productions.
