Music Review: “Pain in my Heart” by Lock Da Don

There’s almost absolutely nothing wrong with indie artists and musicians promoting and remarketing some of their older records. Even though the song may get kind of old to the artist themselves and played out to the fans and listeners who have already heard it. There are still thousands and millions of people who have not heard the song or seen the music video. Some music is considered timeless and can still be relevant years or even decades from now.

Which brings us to “Pain In My Heart” from indie rap artist Jamarkus Jermaine Baker better known as Lock Da Don located in Bainbridge, Georgia. Even though this song and music video was released in early 2019, we believe the power of this particular record still holds weight and will years from now.

“Pain In My Heart” describes Don’s views and experiences of the struggles and the war wounds of growing up in poverty and trying to survive in the hood, or the “jungle” as defined in his song. Since the age 16, Lock had to grow up quick and pretty much become a Man at an early age. Missing out on some of the joys of a normal teenager, he was forced to do what he had to do to survive. As Lock Da Don delivers his bars, you can hear the pain and emotions in his voice, which makes this song feel so real and deep. With that said, his flow delivery is on point and he makes you believe his story. No fairytale BS here! This is some of that harsh reality rap at its finest.

Along with Lock Da Don’s nice delivery and his deep lyrics, the beat production is smooth and a mid-tempo vibe. The beat is carried by an emotionally piano chords and some dramatic saxophone melodies giving the track that a sentimental but deep feel. Almost perfect for Lock Da Don’s story line.

Bringing “Pain in my Heart” to life is the official music video showing some of the things and situations Don has to deal with on a daily basis. Another look into his hood and the life too many people are faced with. The video quality is up to par and gives the song a proper perspective. The video was also directed by Lock Da Don himself, but filmed and edited by Fresh Shot Media.

This song is considered one of the lead singles from the “Pain In My Heart” EP project released in early 2019. Lock Da Don has released numerous songs and a few music videos since then. We look forward to hearing and seeing more from this Georgia artist. Check out “Pain in my Heart” linked below…
